TOUR OVERVIEW

Discover the splendors of Rome while lingering on the Spanish steps, overlooking the Piazza di Spagna. Learn the history of one of the greatest civilizations in the western world at the Pantheon, then off to the Piazza Navona for its signature Carbonara and pasta. Discover the Roman and Greek masterpieces at St. Peter’s Basilica and Sistine Chapel. After a day at the Vatican, travel north to Florence through the Italian wine country stopping in Chianti for a Prosecco. Immerse yourself in Italian Renaissance Masters and be inspired by the remarkable antiquities Giotto’s Bell Tower, Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo.

Itinerary

Italian Treasures starts in Rome on select Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays.
  • DAY 1

    ROME

    Upon arrival in Rome, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. A Homeric Tours representative will contact you to set up your orientation meeting.
  • DAY 2

    ROME

    Start the day with a view of the Roman Forum, the hub of public life in ancient Rome, while making our way to the Colosseum, the legendary arena where gladiator games were staged to entertain the crowds. Afterwards, enjoy a stroll around Rome’s historic center, past picture-perfect sites such as Bernini’s fountain in Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will explore the treasures of the Vatican, including St. Peter’s Basilica, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Square. Evening is at leisure to dine in one of the local restaurants.

  • DAY 3

    ROME / FLORENCE

    Transfer to the Rome train station for the train to Florence. Upon arrival, make your own way to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore and discover this magnificent city.
  • DAY 4

    FLORENCE

    Join an expert local guide for a fun, information walk through the city’s past and learn about the rich legacy of the Medici family, who left the city a wealth of cultural and artistic treasures. You will visit famous spots such a Piazza della Signoria, the Cathedral with Giotto’s bell tower and the Baptistry before crossing the Ponte Vecchio bridge and entering the Oltramo neighborhood, known for its artisanal workshops and quaint atmosphere. During the tour, you will also visit the Accademia Gallery, home to one of the most exquisite art collection in town, which includes Michelangelo’s giant statue of David, a symbol of Florence and one of the greatest works of art of all time.

    TUSCANY

    Depart Florence and enjoy a drive to Siena, the first stop on your tour. Enjoy a guided tour of its UNESCO-listed historic center. Next, reach San Gimignano, the stunning medieval town with an impressive skyline crowned by 14 towers that have survived through the centuries, earning it the nickname “Medieval Manhattan”. Have some time to explore its cobble stoned streets before proceeding to the hills of Chianti for a delicious Tuscan lunch and wine tasting in a splendid estate amid the region’s lush vineyards. In the afternoon, visit Impruneta to learn all about its remarkable terracotta production before continuing to Pisa for a walk around Piazza dei Miracoli, home to the famous Leaning Tower. Overnight in Florence.

    FLORENCE / LUCCA / LA SPEZIA

    Early this morning transfer to La Spezia via private car. You will enjoy an en-route stop in Lucca, one of the most loved cities in Tuscany, for some time to explore on your own. Late afternoon arrival into La Spezia for overnight.

    CINQUE TERRE

    Today, explore magnificent Cinque Terre, comprised of five glorious towns, where small houses are surrounded by lush nature. Visitors are fascinated by the beauty of these villages, namely Manarola, Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare.
